What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is used to replace the root of your natural tooth. The implant is made of quality titanium metal. It is made to fit into the jawbone and once it is inserted, an artificial tooth is connected to the implant. The implant helps to keep the replacement tooth in it?s specific position.

Who Can Receive Dental Implants?

The ideal candidate for dental implants will be in fine health, have healthy gums, and have the needed amount of jaw bone to support a dental implant. If you don?t have a sufficient amount of bone in your jaw than bone grafting may be an additional option for you.

What Happens During The Procedure?

You will have an initial examination with Dr. Forman where he will examine your mouth and take x-rays of your head, jaw, and teeth to determine if dental implants are the best solution for you.

If after examining your x-rays and mouth Dr. Forman decides that dental implants are a feasible option for you then you will schedule your procedure date.

During the initial part of the procedure Dr. Forman will put a dental implant into your jawbone under the gums. The gums will be stitched up and as the gums heal the implant will connect with the bone and attach to the gum. This can take a few months to fully heal.

For the next phase of the procedure Dr. Forman will review the implant and ensure it has successfully healed. Next Dr. Forman will attach what is called an abutment to the implant. The abutment is a post that combines the replacement tooth with the implant.

If you are having more than one dental implant done then Dr. Forman may choose a fixed bridge. This bridge would replace multiple teeth by covering a section of your mouth that is missing teeth.

How Long Will Dental Implants Last?

As long as you maintain proper oral care and dental hygiene habits your dental implants can last as long as a natural tooth would. Dr. Forman will review how to best care for your new dental implant(s) to ensure you?re using beneficial cleaning techniques.

How Painful Is The Procedure?

Fortunately the level of discomfort during the dental implant procedure is relatively low. A large majority of Dr. Forman?s patients do not even end up taking the pain medication which is prescribed to them at the time of the procedure.

Do I Need To Visit A Specialist For Dental Implants?

Generally you do not need to see a specialist for dental implants. With this being said, implant work does take a high calibre level of knowledge and experience. Placing and restoring implants can be notably more difficult than other reconstructive treatments and therefore not every dentist can provide this service.

We are proud to offer this valuable service to our patients. Our staff and our team of specialists (when needed), will ensure that you get the best results possible.
